Where to Find Fresh, Local Produce This Summer in Michiana | Cressy & Everett

Summer is in full swing, meaning many of Indiana's best crops are ripe for the picking. The farmers in the area near our South Bend homes for sale are currently selling their produce at several farmers' markets in the region. Why not stop by these four Michiana markets and see what sumptuous summer fruits and vegetables you can pick up?

  • South Bend Farmer's Market - 1105 Northside Blvd., South Bend, IN 46615
The South Bend Farmer's Market first opened in 1911 as the Public Market. It quickly became so popular that it had to be relocated from its original site at Colfax Bridge to South Fellows Street, eventually moving again to its current location on Northside Boulevard.

This spot is a thriving marketplace that attracts produce vendors from all over South Bend, so you're sure to find something delicious to add to all of your summer spreads. It's open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's also open on Fridays from May to December.

  • River Valley Farmers' Market - 401 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617
The River Valley Farmers' Market is another large indoor year-round farmer's market serving the South Bend area. On top of delicious summer produce like berries, peaches, broccoli, radishes, and other in-season crops, you can also purchase a variety of different non-produce items from other vendors who have set up shop in the space. You'll find everything from local meats, cheeses, and seafood to health and wellness products, handmade jewelry, stuffed animals, and more.

The market is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Our real estate agents love picking up lunch here after a busy day!

  • Portage Farm Stands – 1007 Portage Ave., South Bend, IN 46616
Portage Farm Stands is a smaller community market that convenes every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the summer harvest season.

Offering a more intimate experience than South Bend's larger markets, vendors set up shop for the day right next to Portage Avenue's sidewalk. This convenient location makes it extremely easy for residents near our South Bend homes for sale to drop by and do some shopping—even if they're not usually early birds. If you want to save even more time, sign up for a weekly Farmbox from Barn Swallow Farms (one of the market's many vendors) and pick up your preselected fruits and veggies from their stand each week.

  • St. Joe Farmers Market – 301 State St., St. Joseph, MI 49085
The St. Joe Farmers Market is a weekly marketplace that operates every Saturday in Lake Bluff Park, one of the many beautiful green spaces near our St. Joseph homes for sale.

This market has been running for many years and used to sell nothing but fresh local produce. Over time, vendors selling baked goods, jam, honey, cut flowers, living plants, and other items from nearby farms and artisans. It's open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with special extended hours when the local art fair is also running in the park.

Summer won't last forever, but Michiana's flourishing farming community always has something delicious in store for area residents. Contact us today to speak to our team of real estate professionals and start looking for your own home in one of these pastoral cities.
