Elkhart County Heritage Trail - Autumn

The temperature is dropping, the days are getting shorter, and the air is cool, crisp, and refreshing. With the pleasant, beautiful days of fall here in Northern Indiana, now is the time to start planning your autumn adventures in Northern Indiana. If you're looking for a fun way to spend the day, a chance to discover Indiana real estate, or an easy way to explore all of the great communities in our area, then try traveling the Heritage Trail.

Elkhart County Amish Country

The Heritage Trail winds its way through Amish Country and passes through a host of other wonderful towns in Elkhart County, with plenty of great stops for food and fun along the way. Our Cressy & Everett real estate agents are here to tell you all about the Heritage Trail.

  • Enjoy an Awesome Autumn Exploring Elkhart County
Traveling the Heritage Trail is a unique experience because the trail passes through so many different communities, each with its own personality. You can explore downtown areas in communities like Middlebury, visit the art galleries of Elkhart, stop for a scenic picnic, or learn more about local history. There are great activities along the trail for families, couples, and anyone looking to enjoy all that our corner of Indiana has to offer.

Bonneyville Mill

  • Bonneyville Mill County Park
Bonneyville Mill County Park is a favorite stop for people with homes in Goshen, and for everyone traveling the Heritage Trail. Spend an afternoon fishing, enjoy seven miles of trails, or pick out your favorite picnic spot beneath the fall foliage. The park is centered around the Bonneyville Mill, a unique piece of Indiana real estate which operated for 150 years and can still be toured today.

  • Goshen Farmer's Market
Touring the Heritage Trail is a great way to work up an appetite, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop for a tasty meal along the way. The Goshen Farmer's Market is a fantastic place to pick up fresh ingredients, and shop for arts, crafts, and jewelry from unique local vendors. On most days, you'll also be able to enjoy some live music while you shop.

  • Kercher's Sunrise Orchards
Established in 1922 and family-owned ever since, Kercher's Sunrise Orchards is a great place for food and family fun in Nappanee. Stop in for a quick shopping trip to pick up the freshest fruits and vegetables, or turn your trip into a family activity by spending an afternoon picking fruit in the orchard. Fall is harvest season, after all!

  • Fruit Hills Winery and Orchard
At the end of a long day of exploration, with the sun setting and the fall foliage filling the horizon, what could be better than sitting down with a fine glass of your favorite wine? Fruit Hills Winery and Orchard, located in beautiful Bristol, is the perfect place to unwind. Enjoy a glass outdoors on the deck, or bring a group of friends to taste all of the fantastic flavors at Fruit Hills Winery.

Wakarusa Great Pumpkin Tree

  • The Great Pumpkin Tree
The quaint, historic community of Wakarusa is our final stop along the trail today, and it's a great example of all that the Heritage Trail has to offer. Every year during autumn, you will find a truly unique celebration in Wakarusa, centered around the Great Pumpkin Tree. The tree towers over the center of town, and serves as the perfect backdrop for all of the fun fall activities you'll find in Wakarusa.
